The Way Things Dinge is a durational performance by Ramona Nagabczyńska to be shown in a gallery space or other non-theatrical space. The form of the performance strongly refers to moving sculpture or kinetic installation, in which the only medium is the body. It asks for another perspective on corporeal movement and dramaturgy than that offered by theatrical dance.
Nagabczyńska makes an attempt to redefine the borders between object and subject by achieving fluidity between the forces of coincidence and the performer’s intentional actions. Through finding particular modes of bodily interaction she explores the idea of autopoeisis, co-dependence and affect, seeing in them common denominators of all physical being, including the human being, and therefore being a way of achieving this fluidity. Ramona strives to build a sequence of stage happenings, which require constant negotiations of one’s position from the dancers, forcing them to frequently alternate between perceiving themselves in subjective and objective terms.
The starting point for her considerations is the canonic video work of the Swiss artists Fischli & Weiss The Way Things Go and Complexity Theory.
